Bournemouth Airport management have indicated the proposed increase in charges for the coming year (April 2012 to March 2013).
Local AOPA representative, John Murray, and Airtime's Kevin Churchill were among a number of people who met with the airport's Patrick Alexander (Commercial and Marketing Director) in an effort to persuade the airport to keep charges at their present level or even reduce them.
It appears that the views of airport users were taken into account. Perhaps the meetings made little difference to the airport's original proposals but a few minor gains may have been made - at least the discount for based aircraft remains in place and a new landing card is available.
In summary:
Runway Charges (Landing fees) increased by around 5.2% (for a PA-28 up to 1500kg MTOW, the fee rises from £29.01 to £30.52, all plus VAT).
The discount for Bournemouth-based aircraft remains at 15%.
A new landing card for 100 landings is available representing a 20% saving (there may be a sting in the tail - as aircraft on a landing card require £10,000,000 insurance cover which is higher than standard cover so potentially an additional charge for insurance negating any saving).
The full list of Fees and Charges will be available on the airport's website soon.
An attempt to form an Airport Users Group to campaign on behalf of owners and pilots has been made and the airport holds a Pilot's Forum every 6 months. If pilots and owners want to put concerns to the airport, the opportunity is available to do so. The next BIA Pilot's Forum is on 9th March 2012 at 10:00am in the New Imperial Room in the Airport Terminal Building.
