EPA - European Flight Academy (Malta)

Malta based European Flight Academy recently asked us to provide and fit their aircraft with a new 2.0l Thielert Centurion diesel engine and carry out a complete panel redesign to install a glass cockpit upgrade, which would enable them to extend their fleet training commercial pilot students to the highest standards. This would require a new panel design and major rewiring to fit a GARMIN G500 display system, a GARMIN GNS430W GPS NAV/COMM and 2x GII06A Indicators as well as significant work by our Engine Workshop team to install the new engine.


The upgrade to a glass cockpit quoted at around £25,000 and would take 150 hours to complete. This would include all design, parts, build, installation, testing and modification paperwork. Prospective students looking to become professional pilots will often measure the quality of the training in an organisation by the quality of the aircraft in use. What is presented in the cockpit is often critical in this respect so our attention to detail and the quality of workmanship would certainly be a factor as would our ability to keep within budgets and time-scale.

The engine workshops and engineers at Airtime are fully approved by the CAA, Thielert Continental and Centurion to offer many in house services others simply do not have the facilities for. At Airtime we are able to overhaul engines from Lycoming 235 to the 540 series and the Continental 200 to the 520 series. Importantly our engineers also inspect and overhaul many of the components for these engines such as magnetos, heaters, carburettors, starter and alternators. We even have a certified test rig to carry out engine runs prior to fitting any engine back into an aircraft. These service facilities save a substantial amount of time and cost. Due to the fact we are not reliant on 3rd party companies or schedules we are able to quickly resolve any ongoing issues directly without having to send the part away, again.
