We are excited to learn Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (DLEP) have announced the BIG - Bournemouth International Growth programme - a £40 million development plan for the area around Bournemouth International Airport which is set to significantly improve public access to the airport.

The project is part of an £80 million Growth Deal secured from the Government by the DLEP which will see the creation of 10,000 jobs, the release of up to 60 hectares of land at the Aviation Business Park, skills and employee development to sectors including aerospace, aviation, advanced manufacturing, digital media, marine, defence and financial services.

The improvements are set to be completed in phases over the next four years also include;

* 350 new homes, 50 per cent of them designated ‘affordable’.

* Superfast broadband at the airport and Aviation Business Park.

* Improvement of the A338 between the Blackwater Junction and Cooper Dean – potentially including a new link road to Royal Bournemouth Hospital at Wessex Fields.

The DLEP is working closely with a number of partners to bring this project to completion: Bournemouth, Christchurch and East Dorset councils, Dorset County Council, the Aviation Business Park, Bournemouth University and Manchester Airports Group.

Dorset LEP Chairman,Gordon Page, said:
“Bournemouth International Growth programme is undoubtedly Dorset’s most important and bold economic development project this decade. Dorset is sitting on a major growth opportunity around Bournemouth Airport.
"This £40 million transport and infrastructure investment will unlock suppressed growth and secure the area’s long term economic prosperity. More high-skilled jobs will be created meaning a brighter, better future for local businesses and people.”

92% of those asked within the local community support the development, likewise existing businesses at the airport can only benefit from the increased opportunities such a development will bring.
